There are many queries regarding the result declaration and Awards giving. Tentatively, awards will be given in an event at Mumbai on World Environment Day, 5th June 2011.

Results will be declared and winners will be informed one month in advance. Result will be announce on Environment Dept website, Srushti Mitra blog and by press release.

Acknowledgment for entries received

Due to higher numbers of entries received in various categories it will not be possible to give acknowledgment for the entries received.

In case of processing of these entries if any gap was found, we will contact the person submitting the entries and ask for the required information.

It is expected that personal details and complete contact details are provided with the entries accurately.

Ganesh Festival - Eco Friendly Way

Description: Ganesh festival should be celebrated in an eco friendly way. Idol made up of clay/ soil should be used and Plaster of Parish (PoP) made idol should be avoided. Use of chemical colours should also be discouraged.

Ganesh Idols should not be immersed in rivers or in lakes. This cause damage to the aquatic life present in water. Alternatively the idols should be immersed in separate water tanks made for this purpose only. Also the decoration articles should be made up of natural material not the thermocol or plastic which are non-biodigradable.
Nirmalya and other biodegradable materials should be put separately and should be composted. These are the good practices which make the Ganesh Festival eco-friendly and does not cause damage to our environment too.

Photographers and Photography Clubs

Professional and amateur photographers, members of photograph clubs, nature photographers, nature appreciation clubs, nature trailers are invited to send their photographs of environment.

People who wants to highlight any environmental issue, citizen journalists, and the educators who have used their photographs to highlight an environmental issue of their neighborhood or have used the photos to educate people of any issue and make them aware of certain bad practices harming environment or to adopt good practice to benefit the environment should also send their entries for larger awareness.

Researchers may like to share their recent findings through their photos.

Giving the story behind the photos as description would make others understand it.

In order to promote environmental awareness and to recognize and acknowledge environmental action projects undertaken by students, Environment Department, Government of Maharashtra and Centre for Environment Education invite entries for Srushti Mitra Awards in the following categories:

(a) Environment Projects (by school and college students)

(b) Environment Photographs (open for all)

(c) Environment Slogans (open for all)

(d) Environment Bal Sahitya (open for all)

The most inspiring and creative entries in each category will be given a citation and honorarium.

Details for Submission of Entries

(a) Environment Projects - by students of schools and colleges

These are the action projects done by the students at their school and colleges on the local environmental issues related to environmental conservation and restoration such as energy, water and/or biodiversity conservation, protection or conservation of a natural area, protection of natural resources like rivers, lakes, ponds, hills, forests, gardens, etc., developing medicinal plant/rare tree gardens, waste management, abatement of air, water, noise and soil pollutions, mitigating use of harmful chemicals like pesticides, safe celebration of festivals, improving traffic management and safe access to the school by students, encouraging non-motorized transport, promoting cleanliness and improving water and sanitation situations at school and neighbourhood, participating in the decision making processes of local level civic issues, increasing awareness and participation of the society, etc.

Projects which will involve the community and which will have social and economic benefits will be given preferred considerations. This category is for the students of schools and colleges.

Entries can be the reports of the ongoing projects or completed projects in the suggested format. It can also be the projects planned to be implemented this year based on its goals and potential outcomes.

Entries are invited in 2 categories:

Category 1: Students up to standard X, and

Category 2: Students of Std XI and XII, Junior College and Senior College

Submission should be done in single file containing description of the project experience or plan in Marathi or English.

Format for submission:

• Title of the Project

• Location where project was implemented (village/ town, district)

• Full contact details of students submitting the entries (postal address, phone/mobile, email)

• Date when the project was initiated or planned to start

• Environmental and social problem addressed through this project (upto150 words)

• Methodology for the project implementation (400 words), 2 to 3 photos of the activities

• Achievements of the project and the benefits/ outcomes (200 words, 2 to 3 photos)

• Who got directly benefited from the project, and how many

• Photographs of the completed and ongoing project (2 to 4 photos) - showing benefits and outcomes

• Future plans for the project and follow up activities (200 words)

(b) Environment Photographs

These could be the photographs depicting the nature, its aesthetics and values, snaps of good environmental practices which should be promoted, the harmful practices which should be discouraged and stopped. It can also be photograph highlighting an environmental threat/issue or photographs used for educating people about some environmental issue/concept. Entries should describe about the photograph with the title. This category is open for all.

Format for submission:

• Title of the photo and date when it was taken

• Short text description (max 100 words)

• Print size - 8 inches by 12 inches, matt finishing

• Digital JPEG format, size - 7 megapixel resolution, in CD

(c) Environment Slogans

Slogans can be on various environmental issues including on nature, promoting conservation, focusing on socially and environmentally sound development processes, enhancing awareness about good and bad practices (do’s and don’ts), etc. Slogan can be rhyming phrases in Marathi or English language summing up to 20 words. This category is open for all.

(d) Environment Bal Sahitya

Entries in this category may be the creative writings such as stories, poem, cartoon strip, article series, etc on environment written for the children. It can be in Marathi or English language. If required sub-categories will be made for evaluating the entries. This category is open for all.

Entries for Bal Sahitya is invited in two categories –

1. Bal Sahitya Junior – written by the children (upto age of 16 years), and

2. Bal Sahitya Senior – written by the adults for the children.

For Submission of Entries

· Persons submitting entries must give their personal details such as complete name, age, postal address, phone/ fax/ mobile no. and email ID.

· Entries should be submitted in CD or by email.

· Those who can not submit entries in soft copy can submit typed or neatly written hard copy.

· If required sub-categories will be made for evaluating the entries and the honorarium will be reallocated.

· All entries should carry a signed declaration by the person submitting stating that the submitted work is their own original work.

Other information

· Material submitted will not be returned.

· Environment Dept will be free to use any of the entries submitted to create educational material for environmental awareness. The originators of the entries will be acknowledged.

· Employees and direct relatives of employees of Environment Dept of Govt of Maharashtra, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and Centre for Environment Education are not allowed to submit entries.
