Srushti Mitra Awards 2013

Srushti Mitra Awards have been instituted to recognize efforts and actions for raising awareness about and conservation of the environment. Department of Environment, Government of Maharashtra and Centre for Environment Education invite entries for Srushti Mitra Awards 2013.

Details of the Categories

1.       Environment Project
Entry must be report of project done by school or college student. It must be an action project addressing any environmental issue. For example, biodiversity conservation, water or energy saving, waste management, improving traffic situation or safe access to school for students, encouraging walking or cycling, projects involving people in solving environmental issues in neighbourhood and other restoration work. Preference will be given to those that have social and economic benefits as well. Reports on simple plantation, awareness or a model making activity are not encouraged for submission.

Entries are invited in 2 categories:
Category 1: Students upto Std. X
Category 2: Students of Std. XI and XII, Jr & Sr College

Submission must be in a single word file describing the project experience, in the following format:
  • Title and objective of the project
  • Location where project is implemented (village/town, district)
  • Name, age, class and contact detail of the student submitting entry (address, mobile/phone, email), school name and contacts (address, mobile/phone, email)
  • Period of the project, start and end dates
  • Environmental and social problem addressed by the project (upto 150 words)
  • Methodology - how the project was implemented (upto 400 words, 3 to 4 photos)
  • Achievements and benefits of the project (upto 200 words)
  • Which people get direct benefit, and how many
  • Photographs of project showing benefits (2-3 photos)
  • Future follow-up plans (upto 200 words)

2.       Environment Bal Sahitya
Entries may be creative writing or content for children on environment in 3 sub-categories – i) Poem/Song/Powada, ii) Short Story/Popular Article, and iii) Cartoon/Comic Strip (illustration depicting some story/sequence), in English or Marathi. It must be an original work. It may be already published or unpublished. If already published, please provide details of publication.

Entries invited in 2 categories:
1. Bal Sahitya Junior, written by children upto 16 years
2. Bal Sahitya Senior, written by adults for the children

3.       Environment Photographs
Entries may be photographs of some unique habitats and ecosystem services, bio-geo-cultural diversity and sustainable practices. It may depict aesthetics of nature, environmentally good practices that should be promoted, environmentally harmful practices that should be changed or stopped. It should give some message or highlight some issue. This category is open for all.

Format for submission:
·         Title of the photo
·         Date when the photo was taken
·         Short text description of photo (max 100 words)
·         Digital copy (in jpeg format of more than 7 megapixel or 600 DPI), by email or in CD
·         Print copy - size 8 by 11 inch/A4 size, matt finish

4.       Environment Slide Show
Slide shows of upto 20 slides may be submitted on topics of environment that can be used for teaching and awareness. Teachers, educators and experts are welcome to submit entries. Format for slide show is Power Point. Provide a script for the slide show (upto 30 min). The photos, illustrations, text used in the slide shows must be original or permissions for public use should have been obtained from the holders of the copyrights and a proof of the same should be attached. Give personal details on last slide. Copying from websites is not encouraged.

5.       Environment Slogan
Entry may be slogan upto 20 words on any environment theme, promoting conservation action, socially and environmentally good development practices, enhancing awareness, etc. A person can submit their 3 best slogans. Entries must be original not modified.

6.       Eco Club
Entry can be report of the activities done by the Eco Club in campus or community to solve local environment and social issue, conserve environment or natural resources. It should give details of the best activities or projects done by the Eco Club in the academic year 2012-13. Format for submission:
·         School name and address, board of affiliation, govt or private, classes (from - upto)
·         Name of the principal and contact details (mobile/phone, email)
·         Name of the Eco Club, year of establishment
·         Name and contact of Teacher In-charge
·         Number of students, and their classes
·         Detail of any funding for Eco Club and name of programme/scheme
·         Any award received by the Eco Club
·         Details of the main activities of Eco Club in 2012-13
o   Title and objective of the activity
o   Basis for selecting this activity
o   Duration, start and end dates
o   Description of the activity
o   Method or steps of doing activity
o   Benefits out of this activity
o   Role of Eco Club members
o   Who else were involved
o   Outcome of the activity
o   Indicators to measure success of the activity
o   Provide 1-2 photo of the activity
·         List other common activities undertaken by Eco Club like day celebrations, campaign, competition, etc

Tips: Give brief and appropriate information in points. Provide photos or reports in support. Focus on best activities. Highlight what was new and exciting. No need to write all activities. Reports of common activities like plantation, awareness campaign, rally, are not encouraged for submission.

7.       Case Study on Environment Education
Entry may be case study of the practical experience in environment education (EE) or education for sustainable development (ESD). It should be first-hand experience of developing and trying out a new tool, technique or approach for EE/ESD, describing its success and challenges, etc. It can be EE/ESD experience within or outside classroom such as learning through action project or nature trail. This category is for teachers, educators and experts working in the field of education, EE and ESD. (Word limit upto 800 words, 1-2 photos)

8.       Women’s Contribution in Environment Conservation
This is to recognise women who have done work for conserving environment. Entry must be a story/case study about an individual woman. One can nominate self or other women, writing in the form of a real story.  The story should describe a personal experience of any environment friendly action she has brought about in home, community, work place or through school/agency/club she may be associated with. The story should describe motivation for action, and how she carried it out, her reflection on what worked, what was a challenge, etc. (Word limit upto 800 words, 1-2 photos, attach CV if a professional)

Rules for Submission

1.       Every entry must have complete personal details of person submitting (name, age, class, mobile/phone, email, address).
2.       Entry should be submitted both by email and in hard copy on plain A4 size paper.
3.       For Marathi use Shree Lipi, DV Surekh or Mangal fonts, and also send in pdf format. Do not send scan copy.
4.       Those in rural area/cannot submit entries in soft copy can submit typed/neatly written hard copy on plain A4 size paper.
5.       A person can send more than one entry in single category and participate in more than one category.
6.       Entry of one person and one category should be submitted in a single envelop and by single email. Write name of the category on envelop. In email subject, write your name followed by category (e.g. Gungan Auti - bal sahitya junior – poem – English).
7.       Entry should carry a signed deceleration, stating that the work submitted is original and not copied from anywhere.
8.       Entry not in proper format, without personal detail, and received after last date will not be assessed.
9.       Giving reply will not be possible due to higher number of entries. Delay in post of any kind will not be considered in anyway.
10.   If required, categories will be changed or cancelled for evaluating the entries and the honorarium will be reallocated.
11.   Decision of the evaluators will be final and binding. No query in this regard will be entertained.

Other Information
1.       Material submitted will not be returned.
2.       Environment Department will be free to use any of the entries in educational material for environmental awareness. The originator of the entries will be acknowledged. (This clause will not apply to the materials already published with copyrights clause.)
3.       Employees and direct relatives of employees of Environment Department of Government of Maharashtra, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and Centre for Environment Education are not allowed to submit their entries.
