Submit Environment Project Reports and Ideas for the Srushti Mitra Award

The Srushti Mitra award has been instituted by the Environment Department, Government of Maharashtra. The Award will recognize the most inspiring, creative entries in each category with a citation and honorarium (ranging from Rs 2000 to Rs 10000 in various categories). The process is being managed by Centre for Environment Education (CEE).

The ‘Students Environment Projects’ category is open to both school and college students.  Entries may be submitted by individual students as well as groups of students. Students may submit reports of projects already completed, and even plans of projects to be taken up in the future.  The topic of the project (report or plan) may be related to any environmental issue. Examples include environmental conservation or restoration work, energy/ water / biodiversity conservation, waste management, improving traffic management and safe access to the school by students, encouraging non-motorized transport, participating in local level civic issues, water and sanitation improvement, etc. Preference will be given to those projects that have social and economic benefits as well.
Studying the waste management system in a locality can show the occupational hazards faced by waste collectors and indicate where sorting areas can be set up
Checking the quality of footpaths to give feedback to the municipal authorities can help in improving road safety and improve traffic management thereby reducing pollution
Testing the quality of water in a stream can help us understand pollution levels so that clean-up plans can be made – good for humans as well as other life forms
Planting indigenous and useful trees is good for the environment and people can harvest some natural products too
Protecting turtle nesting areas can help biodiversity and also provide opportunities for ecotourism by which local people can earn their livelihood
